Summary of the position The Global Commodity Manager is a core role that supports global, overarching commodity strategies and execution of global spend for direct spend commodities. The candidate will work under the Director of Strategic Sourcing, engaging stakeholders to support category strategies and align site execution with procurement strategy. The role also maintains core supplier relationships to meet quality, service, technical support, and cost goals. Experience with multiple commodities, strategic sourcing practices, and SAP is preferred. The work site is the Hitachi Global Air Power manufacturing plant in Michigan City, Indiana, with travel to other sites, supplier meetings, or tradeshows as needed. Up to 35% travel domestically and internationally. Duties and responsibilities Develop, align and implement commodity strategies that are innovative, cost-effective, and address industry complexities. Maintain effective links with global stakeholders across brands, manufacturing sites, and core suppliers; communicate with stakeholders at various levels, functions, countries and cultures. Establish and manage relationships with key suppliers; drive improvements in quality, delivery and cost; implement corrective actions to meet targets. Execute to defined cost reduction targets. Lead commercial and contractual negotiations with suppliers. Monitor commodity market conditions and trends; develop category strategies with appropriate analytical rigor. Understand business strategy impact on future category requirements; identify and manage supply chain risks; address tactical and strategic issues. Ensure the strategy delivers best value (quality, service, cost) and apply the strategic sourcing process consistently. Support periodic supplier business reviews with metrics on cost, risk, stakeholder satisfaction, technical support, delivery/quality, and continuous improvement. Foster supplier relationships to maximize value to the business. Support process improvements, systems, practices, and procedures. Use consistent strategic sourcing processes and e-procurement tools (e.g., reverse auctioning) and select the best tools for each situation. Qualifications Education BS Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Administration or other relevant field; advanced degree preferred. Professional experience Minimum 2-5 years of commodity management experience in a global industrial equipment manufacturing environment. High-level knowledge of SAP and analytical tools. Strong commercial negotiations and contract management experience. World-class project management and strategic planning capabilities. International business and cultural experience. Effective communication across all organizational levels and cultures. Ability to self-motivate, multi-task, and work independently in a geographically dispersed, virtual team. Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor with energy and urgency. Ability to travel domestically and internationally. Key behaviors Team-oriented with a self-starter mindset.
