Overview Principal Applied Scientist, Amazon Stores Economics & Science (SEAS) role at Amazon. Stores Economics and Science (SEAS) is an interdisciplinary science and engineering team in Amazon's Stores organization focused on moving from local to global optima in methods, models, and software. The team scales by solving problems from small concepts to large scalable solutions and collaborates with partner teams across Amazon. In 2024, SEAS focuses on economics and science related to improving delivery speed and lowering cost-to-serve, seller fees and incentives, and emerging machine learning using LLMs. We are looking for a seasoned Applied Science leader to build and deliver cutting-edge science and engineering solutions to improve the Stores business. You will lead a team of scientists and engineers with backgrounds in machine learning, NLP, IR, statistics, and economics to identify bottlenecks, conceive new ideas, and deploy scientific solutions in partnership with product teams. Responsibilities include developing scientific models, benchmarks, and services. Graduate education and hands-on experience in machine learning, optimization, causal inference, Bayesian statistics, deep learning, or other quantitative scientific fields are required. To be successful, you should be a quick learner and comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity.

Lead a team of scientists and engineers to identify bottlenecks in the business and deploy scientific solutions in partnership with product teams. Develop scientific models, benchmarks, and services. Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable analytics and ML systems.

Basic Qualifications

10+ years of building machine learning models for business applications. PhD, or Master’s degree and 10+ years of applied research experience. Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related languages. Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, TensorFlow, numpy, scipy, etc. Experience with large-scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.

The base pay for this position ranges from $179,000/year to $309,400/year, depending on location and experience.
