The Opportunity
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
opportunity at Mercy Cedar Rapids (Mercy) seeks a dynamic, distinguished, and strategic executive to guide financial strategy and operational excellence for a faith-based, not-for-profit hospital system with $494M net revenue. Mercy is a cornerstone of Eastern Iowa healthcare for over a century, guided by the Sisters of Mercy. The Position
This position is accountable for guiding the financial strategy, stewardship, and operational excellence of Mercy’s complex financial ecosystem and owning the results to advance its mission. The CFO functions as a strategic partner to the President & CEO and advises/supports the Executive Team, Board of Trustees, and Mercy Management Team to achieve Mercy’s strategic initiatives and financial goals. The CFO oversees financial operations across both non-profit and for-profit entities, ensuring alignment with Mercy’s faith-based mission and compliance with regulatory and ethical standards. The CFO serves as executive liaison to the Finance, Investment, and Planning Committees of the Board of Trustees and regularly interacts with the full Board and its committees. The Ideal Candidate
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business required Master’s degree in finance, health administration or MBA preferred Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation preferred Continuing professional education (CPE in healthcare finance and related areas) required Minimum of ten years of increasingly responsible health care financial leadership experience in complex healthcare settings required Minimum of six years of experience as CFO with responsibility in a large multi-service health care organization with both non-profit and for-profit entities required Experience in preparing high-level financial reporting, budgeting information, and financial projections to Boards and Committees of a large health care organization required Strong leadership in developing and directing staff, evaluating performance, and fostering ongoing professional growth required The Organization
