The Store Manager is responsible for all facets of store operations and directly influences the performance of everyone who interacts with guests. Using elements of GameStop's buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model, the Circle of Life, the Store Manager develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for every guest, and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and shared passion for gaming, and supporting the overall store environment to meet/exceed sales and profit. In addition to ensuring that products are easy to see and buy, building sales by sharing product and gaming knowledge with guests, providing a clean, organized environment in which to shop, and growing guest loyalty and repeat business, this position supervises a retail staff which may vary based upon store size, location(s), and expected sales volume.
Responsibilities
The Store Manager will manage and lead in a multiunit capacity.
Provide and model best-in-class guest service: greet guests, respond to questions/concerns quickly and courteously, assist with video gaming needs, inform about promotions, recommend items, apply selling behaviors, and thank guests for shopping.
Support the store environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that lead to sales and repeat business.
Process guest purchases/returns accurately using the POS system, including making change, providing receipts, and ensuring high-quality service.
Respond to guest comments or questions in person or by phone; manage calls promptly and professionally using the provided greeting.
Promote GameStop benefits such as new title reservations, trade-in, and Pro Rewards loyalty programs.
Recruit, interview, hire, assess, develop, and retain high-performing associates.
Ensure associates complete onboarding, job training, and compliance training prior to opening/closing shifts; knowledge of store policies, inventory control, loss prevention practices, safety, financial protocol, and ethics.
Communicate with store staff and the District Manager to implement initiatives; set guest service expectations and train associates on responsibilities and guidelines.
Schedule store associates, manage breaks, and maintain staffing for optimal guest service.
Approve payroll, manage paid time off, and verify time worked.
Provide timely recognition and feedback; document performance in the HR system as required.
Maintain neat, clean, organized store areas and ensure fixtures and equipment are in proper working order.
Fulfill Omni-Channel orders and ship daily.
Conduct store inventory counts, stock/restock merchandise, and organize products for visibility and accessibility.
Protect company assets through effective inventory and loss prevention practices; inspect handling of packages at closing as appropriate.
Lead the store team to meet or exceed sales, profit, and shrink goals; complete required administrative duties.
Close daily activity: balance transactions, prepare closeout paperwork, and manage cash deposits per guidelines.
Verify shipments for discrepancies and conduct inventories; communicate issues to the District Manager.
Process defectives/recalls and stock pulls; label boxes and packing lists accurately.
Ensure associate and guest safety; report injuries promptly per guidelines.
Maintain store records/files and ensure manuals are up to date.
Form professional partnerships with appropriate military personnel on bases where applicable.
Adhere to GameStop policies and procedures as outlined in the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.
Qualifications
Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
At least 1 year of retail management experience required.
At least 3 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred.
Video game knowledge preferred.
Key Skills & Abilities
Outgoing, welcoming personality with strong people skills.
Provide genuine and individualized guest assistance.
Clear verbal and written communication; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team; meet leadership expectations.
Operate POS system and perform basic math and organizational tasks.
Follow instructions and execute financial tasks per policy.
Lead in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure professionally.
Reliable, trustworthy, and capable of working long hours including nights, weekends, holidays, or overtime as needed.
Physical ability to stand, move, bend, and lift up to 30 lbs; work up to 12 hours as required.
Understanding of military bases roles if applicable.
