Overview
The
Youth Development Specialist
plays a key role in setting a positive, safe and welcoming tone, and implementing programming. The YDS develops caring relationships with youth, implements group activities, and assists them in learning how to work together to solve problems in positive ways. Reports to:

18 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt Schedule:
Monday-Friday (2:30 PM-6:00 PM) Major Duties
Participate in the planning and execution of educational, recreational, and personal enrichment activities. Participate in program recruitment and community outreach. Manage setup, operation and clean-up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment. Encourage and guide program participants in examining choices, following directions and becoming involved in program activities. Manage participant’s behavior and maintain safety utilizing strength-based and restorative practices. Implement daily routines, schedules and procedures. Maintain lesson plans, logs, reports and documentation requirements. Participate in ongoing meetings, conferences and training programs. Provide safe passage for participants from the center. Promote a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED required Experience working/living within the community preferred Experience and comfort mediating conflict Experience or skill in arts, media, dance, sports, recreation, and/or physical education Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth development and trauma-informed perspective Seniority level
