Senior Principal Field Engineer role at Nevada National Security Sites. Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Our MISSION is to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site’s Cold War legacy. Responsibilities

The Senior Principal Engineer will help lead Field Engineering in the execution of projects and support the construction department during construction activities of infrastructure projects at the NNSS. This may include construction projects, emerging project issues, providing support for project discovery, project scope development, support for identifying functional requirements for projects and systems. Perform the duties as the Project Field Engineer (PFE) on projects, and be responsible for coordinating efforts, and giving guidance to less experienced field engineers. Participate in walk-downs, generate sketches, develop conceptual designs, evaluate existing systems, and generate and/or review Functional Requirement Documents (FRDs). Serve as an expert advisor to other personnel and management on difficult and critical technical issues. Technical Lead for major projects. Initiates collaborations with partners. Ensure processes and deliverables comply with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures. Ensure designs are properly reviewed, purchased, executed, installed, tested, and documented in accordance with the latest issued construction documents. Review engineering documents for constructability during design reviews (30%, 60%, 90% and Issued For Construction (IFC)). Verify and report on construction installation quantities. Interface with Project Engineering to facilitate responses to RFIs, FCRs, and needed design changes. Develop Red-Line drawings for incorporation into As-Built drawings. Prepare, review and approve material requisitions. Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision. Serve as internal Subject Matter Expert (SME) with a given engineering discipline. Serve as Project Field Engineer (PFE) for Line-Item projects. Mentor Field Engineering staff and other technical personnel in methods, processes, and best practices. Participate in project development by helping to define customer needs, developing proposals and planning projects that will produce effective outcomes. Serve as a technical expert advisor to other project personnel, technical staff and management on technical issues. Ability to interpret codes and standards related to engineering discipline. Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages. Leverage past knowledge to develop processes that drive efficiency and accountability. Lead planning and scheduling and direct engineering projects. Perform other duties assigned by Management. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by ABET for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees Or calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering Or for Architects, Certification from NCARB Or Professional Engineer license Plus at least 14 years’ relevant experience. Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge; graduate research experience may be recognized. Ability to interpret codes and standards related to engineering discipline. Recognized as an authoritative source of information. Possess independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and accomplish goals where procedures may not be specific. Demonstrated experience leading a team of professional and technical personnel. Demonstrated knowledge and in-depth experience analyzing the most complex technical problems of broad scope. Execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures. In-depth experience in As-Builds, analysis, and discovery of older facilities that require modifications. Independently plans, schedules and directs engineering projects; PE license desired but not required. The primary work location will be at the NNSS, Area 6 (65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, NV). Schedule will be 4/10s, Monday-Thursday (7:00am - 5:30pm). Must be able to work occasional overtime to support project schedules. Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Security and Compliance

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review, including checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are subject to a federal background investigation to meet access requirements for classified information. DOE security clearance requirements apply, and the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2 and related parts. If you hold more than one citizenship, clearance eligibility may be impacted. Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for absence of illegal drugs will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and reinvestigations.
