Director, Center for Cancer Imaging Research Department of Radiology & Imaging Sciences Indiana University School of Medicine Position: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Radiology & Imaging Sciences (Tenure Track) The Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at Indiana University School of Medicine has launched a national search for a director for the newly commissioned Center for Cancer Imaging Research. The mission of the IUSM Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences is to provide impactful clinical care to our patients and to advance clinical care regionally, nationally, and internationally through translational research and excellence in training the next generation of clinicians, researchers, and technologists. The department has a strong research program that includes over 35 research faculty organized within Imaging Research Institute. In 2023, the Blue Ridge Institute rankings listed the department 15th in NIH funding. The Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research ranked the department 13th nationally in NIH funding in 2023, placing the department 6th among all public institutions and 1st among Big 10 institutions. The department supports team science with collaborations across IUSM clinical and basic science departments, nearby institutions (e.g., Purdue University), and industry partners. The DRIVEr program (Developing Radiologic Imaging Value & Effectiveness in Research) provides services for clinical trials, and the Imaging Research Institute comprises the Center for Neuroimaging, Cardiovascular Imaging Research Center, Center for Cancer Imaging, and a state-of-the-art Research Imaging Core with a radiochemistry program including cyclotron and whole-body PET/MR. IUSM also hosts medical physics programs and the Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in Indiana and one of 51 in the nation. Overview of the role The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, collaborative cancer imaging investigator with a strong extramurally funded research program. The Director will develop and articulate a vision for cancer imaging research within the Department and across IUSM. The Director is expected to build diverse but interrelated programs with multidisciplinary teams aimed at developing innovative imaging technologies and applying existing imaging tools to enable cancer biology studies that address transformative questions and unmet patient needs in cancer diagnostics and targeted therapeutics. Responsibilities

Build robust interdisciplinary Cancer Imaging Research programs spanning basic and translational research, comprising scientists, clinicians, and biomedical engineers, to establish IU Radiology and Imaging Sciences at IUSM as a global leader in translational imaging for cancer research. Lead the organization of cancer imaging research conducted by faculty within and outside the department. Expand inter-departmental collaborations for novel image-guided diagnostics and interventions in cancer research using model systems. Increase the Department’s visibility and impact in cancer imaging research by expanding extramural funding from NIH, DoD, ARPA, and others, and promote publications in high-impact journals. Collaborate with the Simon Cancer Center to investigate new imaging technologies and expand the infrastructure for biomedical imaging research to advance cancer imaging research in the Department. Expand the portfolio of intellectual property in cancer imaging. Initiate, support and expand investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical trials centered around imaging-guided cancer research. Partner with commercial entities to develop materials, methods, and tools targeting cancer; foster incubators that spawn start-ups to advance cancer care through commercialization of disruptive imaging technologies. Preferably have demonstrated experience in leading research teams and possess excellent communication skills.
