Reporting to the Director of BioMed Finance, the Assistant Director of BioMed Finance serves as a key member of the Division's financial team. They provide advisory, operational, and financial services to the Division’s programs, working with department heads on budgets and new programmatic initiatives. The role independently resolves routine transactional compliance issues and provides guidance on policy interpretation to financial and administrative teams within the academic Biology programs, The Warren Alpert Medical School, and Clinical spaces. The position will supervise the financial operations team and interact with many university departments, requiring leadership and tact with a wide range of constituents. The Assistant Director provides leadership to the Division's Finance Office (currently 4+ FTEs) and will deliver service in financial management, budget development, and strategic initiatives. They will analyze past and present financial data to recommend future fiscal actions and contribute to the success of BioMed by providing support to leadership and coordination of operational finance for assigned areas of responsibility. The role is responsible for supervising staff and managing areas such as budget, revenue, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger transactions, sponsored program impacts, and related accounting activities including scholarships, gifts, and endowments. Qualifications
Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree required; Master’s degree in related field and/or equivalent preferred 5-7 years' finance/strategy experience (preferably in a medical, academic, or research environment) required; minimum of 2 years of managerial experience required Supervisory experience and demonstrated team-building expertise required Experience with NIH research, animal research, and human subject research a plus Experience with complex academic program financial models a plus High level of competence with computer technology (database management, spreadsheets, analytics, management) Prior experience with a complex ERP system strongly preferred; Workday and/or Adaptive systems a plus Or equivalent combination of education and experience Job Competencies Exceptional interpersonal skills Proven ability to build collaborative partnerships with leaders, campus partners, and external constituents Be an agent of change and a positive culture contributor Flexible – ability to adapt as needed for the department or University Strong technical expertise in budget management and implementation Strong oral and written communication skills Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines Criminal Background And Education Check Required Benefits
