Overview

Malcolm X College is currently seeking a Full-Time Faculty member to teach Nursing - Medical Surgical. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and engage students in critical thinking and problem-solving. Responsibilities

Prepares syllabi that include student learning objectives and student learning outcomes.

Teaches on-campus classes in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college.

Demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process.

Engages, inspires, motivates and empowers students to succeed; develops reciprocity and cooperation among students; encourages active learning.

Employs a variety of teaching methods (lectures, discussions, demonstrations, projects, field trips) to meet diverse learning needs and optimize student outcomes.

Works individually with students who may need specific assistance in reaching academic, personal and career goals.

Models respect for all students and conveys confidence in every student’s ability to learn.

Provides regular, objective, timely feedback and evaluates student performance using established criteria; records course grades promptly.

Develops and designs an assessment program ensuring students apply concepts and techniques learned, including external coursework.

Stays informed of innovations and current trends in nursing pedagogy and technology; participates in professional development.

Attends departmental meetings and contributes to campus and district committees.

Adheres to CCC’s student-centered philosophy and fosters student involvement and commitment.

Ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications

Completed M.S.N. degree. Doctorate in nursing preferred (DNP or PhD).

Current unencumbered Illinois RN license.

Two years of experience in clinical nursing.

Minimum of one year of college-level teaching experience preferred in nursing and one year of recent clinical nursing practice.

Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate persuasively with tact and diplomacy.

Blackboard/Brightspace learning management system preferred.

Salary and Benefits Salary Range: $82,000 – $85,000. Offered salary will be determined by the respective collective bargaining agreement and the applicant's education.
