ELSCO has an ambitious growth strategy that includes broadening our product lines, reaching a broader geographic customer base, and expanding our manufacturing capabilities. We are searching for a leader to take on the newly created role of Director of Engineering. This role will lead our design and manufacturing engineering groups with accountability for successfully developing new products, supporting existing products, and ensuring continuously improving manufacturability.

POSITION OVERVIEW
As the Director of Engineering, you will report directly to the President of ELSCO and be a member of the company's senior leadership team. You will be accountable for R&D around our elevator application and new solutions, new product development, existing product sustainment, and manufacturing engineering. Key responsibilities include: Company leadership: Supports fellow ELSCO Leadership Team members in setting strategic direction of ELSCO, reinforcing the company's desired culture, and executing on our growth strategies. Leads by example and upholds Hamilton's core values. Acts as the voice of ELSCO engineering when engaging with other leaders. Creates and manages the departmental budget. Department leadership and team development: Leads the Engineering department and creates a positive and engaging culture. Structures the department for growth, provides coaching/mentoring, and develops the capabilities of the team and its individual members. Provides clarity of direction and priorities. Matures processes and best practices around the background application knowledge, product design process, documentation, performance validation, design for manufacturability, quality, etc. Ensures company policies and procedures are understood and consistently implemented. R&D and NPD: Leads the company's continued understanding of the elevator application and customer needs in an evolving technology and code environment. Works closely with the product management team in developing the product roadmap. Leads efforts to develop creative new products that solve customer problems. Serves as the company's ultimate technical expert on design, materials, and innovation. Existing product sustainment: Manages and allocates resources to sustain the high quality, manufacturability, and best cost of existing products. Works cross-functionally with Procurement/Supply Chain, Quality, and others to resolve customer complaints and quality issues. Assists in the identification and qualification of new sources of supply for supply chain resilience, value engineering, and quality improvement. Manufacturing Engineering: Manages the manufacturing engineering team to strengthen manufacturing capabilities and resilience. Ultimate responsibility for ensuring company manufacturing machinery is technically sound and suited for purpose. Develops plans for replacement and optimization of older and/or inefficient machinery. Identifies and leads opportunities for alternative manufacturing machinery and equipment, including automation. JOB QUALIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS
Well-qualified candidates will have the following experience, capabilities, and traits: Bachelor's degree in engineering. 10 years or more experience developing products from concept to commercialization in a manufacturing company. 5 years or more experience leading an engineering group: managing engineers working in stage-gate development processes, planning projects, improving engineering processes, and allocating resources to execute multiple product development programs in parallel. High technical acumen and business acumen. High emotional intelligence (EQ). Aptitude and desire for managing the performance of other engineers and technical support personnel. Driven to achieve great company results. Ability to work in high pressure situations. Passion for learning, growing, and continuously improving oneself, team, and company. Experience with 3D CAD systems. Able to travel periodically 1-2 weeks out of the year to vendors and/or trade shows. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in a technical or business field preferred. Experience from the elevator, automotive or industrial machinery industries. Experience with ERP systems. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing. Experience with design, production and/or testing of iron and aluminum castings. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
This is an in-office position with occasional ability to work a hybrid schedule. Our business hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Ability to hear team members. Ability to Visually review engineering designs. Ability to verbally give direction to team members. Repetitive wrist motion is used up to 80% of the time. Mostly sedentary work, however, some walking is required in our manufacturing setting. Walking is required when visiting vendors and attending trade shows. Ability to travel via airplane.
