BES Business Group Technology Director
role at

As part of HDR's Building Engineering Services Business Group, the Technology Director will drive a strategic vision and tactical implementation of technology solutions across the multidisciplinary BES consulting practice. You will lead a team of technology experts, collaborating with BES leadership, the IT Group, operational leadership, technology leaders from across the organization, vendors, and other stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and implement technology initiatives. The primary focus is leveraging technology to optimize project execution, improve efficiency, and foster innovation within the practice and the industry. This will be accomplished by uniting a cohesive BES technology strategy under a technology leadership umbrella and advancing technology initiatives related to digital delivery, data strategy and governance, computational engineering and automation, and other value-added emerging technologies. This position reports to the Professional Services Director, and success includes developing effective technology-centric solutions to consulting and project delivery, creating a community of practice around technology within the organization, shaping the strategic plan for the next five to ten years, leveraging technology as a differentiator for HDR and our clients, and positioning HDR as a leader in the marketplace. Primary Responsibilities
Lead a team of technical experts within BES and facilitate development of a BES technology vision and roadmap that identifies, develops, implements, and monitors strategies for technology, and associated investments within the business group. Couple a market-centric, innovative, and technology-forward strategy to a pragmatic approach to implementation and appropriate risk management. Develop and implement communication strategies to engage and tie the BES community of technology professionals together for connection, networking, idea and knowledge sharing. Develop and implement communication strategies to engage and inform critical BES stakeholders of technology program, including geographic leadership and market sector leadership. Lead the team in developing and implementing standardized approaches and recommended practices for increased efficiency of technology related workflows and quality of delivery. Elevate the state of the practice through thought leadership activities such as industry related awards, publishing articles, speaking engagements, leadership opportunities within societies and technical organizations. Lead visioning for technology workforce of the future. Recruit, develop, and retain technology talent. Partner with key stakeholders to identify and develop a network of Technical Experts/Subject Matter Experts as needed to support the HDR enterprise. Work to identify programmatic hardware and software needs, such as high-powered computing and modeling, and work with corporate information technology to facilitate and implement solutions. Develop strategies and support practice and professional discipline groups to foster technology talent collaboration and skills development. Preferred Qualifications
Experience with a few of the following is a plus: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, information science, systems administration, or similar related field. Minimum of 8 years of experience with at least 5 in the consulting Architecture & Engineering industry. Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute applied technology strategies, implementation plans, and foster lasting change within an organization. Experience in data architecture, data management and well-versed in industry standards. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams to find solutions that advance projects and initiatives. Experience evaluating technology, and software development and deployment. Demonstrated understanding of a broad range of technologies and their applied delivery within the architectural-engineering sector. Experience in numerical modeling, digital production, and data sciences. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field. A minimum of 10 years of experience in related field. Maintains a professional or Engineering registration and has related technical experience. Experienced in development and management of diverse teams. Works cooperatively with other business class directors, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts. Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values.
