Overview

Senior Consultant, Ports and Marine Civil/Structural Engineering at WSP in the U.S. This opportunity is for the National Maritime Practice Group and can be based in Irvine, San Diego, San Francisco (CA), Miami (FL), Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), or Houston (TX). Responsibilities

Provide leadership for engineering tasks including collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and other data for project development, design, and construction. Lead development of construction plans and schedules, specifications, and cost estimates for ports and marine projects. Prepare and implement site safety activity plans and coordinate field work activities. Lead cross-functional teams to execute project work on mid-level projects or multiple smaller projects, collaborating with other engineers and multi-disciplinary teams on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded projects. Track budgets and progress of milestones; support completion of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) submissions. Write technical reports and documentation of findings using sketches, calculations, spreadsheets, technical drawings, and engineering software (including SAP2000 or similar FEM tools). Apply higher-order engineering techniques to develop design requirements, incorporating marine-practice standards and specifications; identify site, design, and construction risks and provide mitigation. Create finite element models for design of fixed and floating marine structures under gravity, live, operational, environmental, and seismic loads. Prepare design documentation for steel and concrete components, deep foundation systems, substructure, and superstructure elements. Prepare project task budgets and schedules for review; deliver presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders. Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally; conduct overwater and/or over-deck inspections of port terminals and visually assess conditions. Uphold workplace safety and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies; complete assigned trainings; perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program. 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in marine project design (rehabilitation and new design). EIT or similar certification/licensure. Proficiency in SAP2000 and/or equivalent FEM software; design and detailing of reinforced and prestressed concrete and steel per ACI, AISC, PCI, and/or AASHTO. Experience with AutoCAD, REVIT, and BIM tools. Experience in ports and marine projects; understanding of multidisciplinary team coordination and agency design standards. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; proficient technical report writing. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team; strong attention to detail and multi-tasking. Commitment to safety and compliance with company policies. Occasional travel may be required; ability to work schedules that extend beyond typical workweeks. Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program with 7+ years of post-education design experience in ports and marine structures. Registered Professional Engineer licensure preferred. Familiarity with domestic and international marine terminal codes (e.g., MOTEMS, ASCE COPRI, PIANC) and DoD criteria. Experience with LSDYNA and related engineering software. Active participation in local professional practice organizations. Experience with marine, port, and coastal construction laws and compliance practices; field investigation or construction support experience. Optional: hold a commercial dive license (ADCI or DCBC). Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $80,000-$120,000. WSP USA provides compensation ranges based on education, experience, and location, with potential variation based on internal equity and other factors. About WSP
