Senior Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering

to join our National Maritime Practice Group. This position can be based out of Irvine, CA; San Diego, CA; San Francisco, CA; Miami, FL; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; or Houston, TX. Provides engineering support to other technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and/or inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector; facilities may include piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls/bulkheads, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore/offshore facilities. Delivers work products at a quality level that meets or exceeds industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Your Impact

Provide leadership for engineering tasks including collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and/or other data matrices for project development, design, and construction. Lead development of construction plans and schedules, specifications, and cost estimates for ports and marine projects. Prepare and implement site safety activity plans and coordinate field work activities. Lead cross-functional teams to execute project work on a mid-level project and/or multiple concurrent smaller projects. Collaborate with other engineers and multi-disciplinary teams on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects. Track budgets and milestone progress; support completion of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) submissions. Write technical reports, documenting findings with sketches, calculations, spreadsheets, technical drawings, and other engineering software (including SAP2000 and similar FEM tools). Apply higher-order engineering techniques to develop project design requirements, incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications. Identify project site, design and construction risks and provide mitigation solutions. Create finite element models for design of fixed and floating marine structures subject to gravity, live loads, operational and environmental loads, and seismic loads. Prepare design documentation of structural components including steel and concrete systems, deep foundation systems, and substructure/superstructure elements. Prepare project task budgets and schedules for review. Prepare and present findings and recommendations to internal and external team members as well as clients. Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner. Conduct overwater and/or over-deck inspections of port terminals and visually assess conditions of elements. Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies; exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding funds and resources; complete all assigned trainings. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program 5 to 7 years of relevant marine project design experience (rehabilitation and new design) EIT or equivalent licensure Experience in analysis and design of marine projects; proficiency in SAP2000 or equivalent FEM software; design and detailing of reinforced and prestressed concrete and steel per ACI, AISC, PCI, and/or AASHTO Experience with AutoCAD, REVIT, and BIM tools Experience in ports and marine-related projects Understanding of multidisciplinary team coordination and agency design standards Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently or in a team; detail-oriented and able to multitask Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with company policies Occasional travel as project requirements Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond a typical workweek Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program with 7+ years of post-education design experience in ports and marine structures Professional Engineer licensure preferred Familiarity with marine terminal codes (e.g., MOTEMS, ASCE COPRI, PIANC) and DoD criteria Experience with LSDYNA or related software Active involvement in local professional organizations Experience with marine, port, and coastal construction laws and regulations Field investigation or construction support experience for port and marine structures Optionally, hold a commercial dive license (ADCI or DCBC) Benefits and Compensation

Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $80,000-$120,000.
