Sr. Professional Electrical Engineer, Charging at Tesla. This role focuses on advancing Tesla’s charging technologies, including Supercharger, Semi charger, and Level 2 AC charging systems. You will lead the design, optimization, and execution of charging infrastructure projects, ensuring seamless integration with Tesla energy products and grid systems, while upholding safety, efficiency, and scalability standards. What You'll Do
Design, review, and approve electrical systems for Supercharger, Semi charger, and Level 2 AC charging installations, including site layouts, power distribution, and grid interconnection Develop and optimize charging infrastructure plans, ensuring compliance with NEC, local codes, and Tesla specifications. Conduct fault current analysis, voltage drop calculations, and protection coordination for charging equipment Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate charging systems with solar, storage, and energy management solutions Review construction plan sets and RFIs, resolving technical challenges during installation of charging stations, and utilize SKM for system modeling and SEL relays for protection scheme programming, ensuring reliability and safety of charging networks Lead value engineering initiatives to reduce costs while maintaining performance and quality in charging infrastructure projects Provide technical guidance on electrical equipment sizing (breakers, conductors, transformers) for high-power DC fast charging (Supercharger, Semi charger) and Level 2 AC systems Stay current with evolving standards for EV charging technologies and advocate for Tesla’s leadership in the industry What You'll Bring
Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience; PE license required 2+ years of hands-on Engineering experience in EV charging infrastructure, including design, construction, and commissioning of Supercharger, Semi charger, and/or Level 2 AC systems or equivalent experience Proficiency in power distribution design, protection coordination, and medium/low voltage systems Skilled in SKM Power Tools, ETAP, or similar software for system modeling Experience programming SEL relays and configuring charging station control systems Strong knowledge of grid interconnection processes, utility coordination, and demand charge management for high-power charging sites Expertise in NEC, NFPA 70E, and IEEE standards for charging equipment, familiarity with SAE J1772, CCS, and NACS charging protocols, familiarity with bidirectional charging, V2G (vehicle-to-grid) integration, fleet charging solutions, and with Tesla charging products, energy storage (Powerwall, Megapack), or solar systems preferred Benefits
