Liberty Mutual Surety is recruiting for a Senior Surety Underwriter to join our Small to Mid Commercial team, preferably in our Warrenville, IL office. We will consider candidates in other locations listed. Description
As a Senior Surety Underwriter you will develop and underwrite profitable surety business, and service independent agents, brokers, and small to mid commercial accounts within an assigned territory. You will build and maintain positive partnerships with our agents, brokers, and accounts as a trusted advisor and underwriting resource for our producers and customers. You will use your business and financial acumen to perform primary credit underwriting and financial/risk analysis, provide recommendations, and make decisions on new and existing accounts. Responsibilities
Underwrite and negotiate accounts to maximize profitability whilst minimizing risk, including complex accounts. Conduct thorough evaluations of a customer’s financial, technical, organizational, and management capacities, including experience and objectives as well as character assessment. Manage the profitability and retention of an assigned book of business while developing the portfolio through relationships with new and existing agents and brokers. May assist in developing the marketing plan. Perform analytical evaluations of financial statements on both static and trend bases. Determine present and historical financial position of accounts and monitor risk through analysis of quarterly statements and work in progress data as appropriate. Stay abreast of Liberty Mutual Surety and Global Risk Solutions product lines and identify opportunities with agents and brokers, leveraging domestic and global capabilities. Investigate, analyze, and manage underwriting/accounting/workflow issues within the framework of Surety policies and procedures. Assess and identify changes in business aspects including work program to financial strength criteria, nature of work performed (inherent risk), data accuracy and timeliness, and exposure analyses. Coordinate with Home Office Underwriters and Field Management. Assist in evaluating business continuity arrangements and funding mechanisms (such as adequacy of life insurance) to preclude financial drain of customers in the event of owner loss or other insurable loss. Mentor more junior staff where appropriate. Perform special projects and other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years experience (preferably 7+ years) in surety underwriting or related business. Strong preference for small to mid commercial Surety experience. Solid understanding of financial and accounting principles with sound business judgment in evaluating financial condition and credit history. Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge surety underwriting risks within scope of responsibility. AFSB certification preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex analyses clearly for underwriting or training purposes. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with attention to detail. Salary and level based on experience and location. Pay and Location
Base pay range: $68,000.00/yr - $194,000.00/yr. This range is provided by Liberty Mutual Surety. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.
