To be selected for this position of Dispatch Lead, students MUST currently be employed with Public Safety as a Public Safety Dispatcher.
Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position): Primary answerer of the 24/7 Public Safety telephone. Under the direction of the Department of Public Safety and Communications Center Director, conduct training for new Dispatch hires.
Transferable Skills: Communication, information management, emergency preparedness.
Duties and Responsibilities: • Under the direction of the Department of Public Safety and Communications Center Director, conduct training for new Dispatch hires. • Answer the Public Safety emergency number, gather important information, and dispatch officers. • Report emergencies to the Northfield Police, Fire or Rescue Departments as requested. • Dispatch on-campus Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) to medical calls. • Answer calls for Safe Ride & Safe Walk and dispatch as appropriate. • Contact college facilities personnel as requested. • Enter telephone calls received and important information into the records management system. • Provide accurate information to callers.
Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills) • Prior experience as a student dispatcher. • Clean campus conduct record. • Successful completion of provided training program. • Successful completion of a background check which may include: criminal background checks, reference checks, verification of work history, verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications. • Effective verbal communication skills. • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. • Ability to work with minimal supervision. • Must be dependable and responsible. • Ability to work effectively during scheduled hours. • Ability to handle and safeguard confidential information.
