Primary Responsibilities HDR has an excellent career opportunity for an experienced professional to join our Colorado Area Water Business Group (WBG) leadership team. Our Area Wastewater Market Sector Leader will focus on leading growth and development in the wastewater market in Colorado, including wastewater treatment and effluent management, pump stations and pipelines, biosolids, and one water collaboration. Primary responsibilities include advancing business development strategies, developing and pursuing new clients and projects, client management, project management for key projects, technical input on projects, and staff development. The selected candidate will have developed good writing, presenting, and speaking skills, as they will work directly with clients and staff. Responsibilities also include collaborating with other technical and marketing staff in the pursuit of new projects, taking a leadership role in selected key pursuits, and serving as client manager for key clients, providing leadership in addressing client issues and coordination of multiple projects.
The Wastewater Market Sector is a highly technical and diversified sector within the Water Business Group. It serves local municipalities, private entities, water utilities, Federal, regional, and local governments, and similar clients across the United States and Canada. HDR is recognized in the market for water supply and treatment, with capabilities spanning utility master planning, strategic advisory services, transmission and distribution, water supply management, water treatment and reuse, construction management and inspection, and asset management and operations assistance. The sector emphasizes coordinating best practices, delivering quality services, and promoting the HDR brand through client engagement and industry involvement.
Business Development Responsibilities
– The Area Wastewater Market Sector Lead will assess the Area’s marketplace and tailor technical business development tactics to capture new HDR clients, win contracts, and expand HDR’s market share. This role interfaces with other market sectors and supports the Regional/Area client development programs, Strategic Pursuits, and marketing management. Strategies include cross-sector collaboration on One Water, wastewater treatment and conveyance, climate resiliency, environmental justice, emerging contaminants, sustainability, and carbon management.
Incorporate our Water Business Group vision with the market sector to become the industry leader. Translate national drivers to Area strategies and develop premarketing and relationship programs with targeted clients.
Serve as the Client Manager for selected key clients and participate in industry activities to advance client relationships and business development.
Collaborate with Area teams to promote HDR services to Wastewater clients within the Area.
Participate as a member of the Colorado Area Water Business Group Leadership Team.
Develop and deliver Area market sector initiatives with Area leadership and marketing teams.
Support pursuit strategies and client relationship development using proven capture techniques.
Assist in industry associations and serve as a representative in business and community organizations.
Identify investments to maintain HDR’s leadership position in the market.
Monitor marketing capabilities and provide market sector support to achieve goals.
Develop relationships with industry counterparts and with senior leadership in key client organizations.
Staff Development Responsibilities
– Seek opportunities to enhance practices to win new work and provide staff growth. Through project leadership, assign staff to develop skills, mentor Wastewater staff, and assist with recruitment of future market sector employees.
Provide market sector input for area work-sharing efforts within the Central region and broader Water Business Group.
Collaborate with leadership to drive technical excellence and support QA/QC and knowledge sharing.
Identify needs for new technical services and products to maximize practice breadth and effectiveness.
Coordinate staffing and recruiting plans for key hires and address resource gaps.
Support to Key Program/Project Delivery
– Assist Area leadership in key project delivery within the market sector, driving client management and supporting QA/QC for successful delivery. Promote collaboration and process improvements to exceed goals.
Monitor staff workload and promote effective use of resources, applying expertise to projects.
Assist with contract review to manage risk, staffing, and quality.
Engage in QA/QC processes and share lessons learned.
Take on project management responsibilities to drive client satisfaction and technical excellence.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in engineering, planning or a related field
Minimum of 10 years of industry experience
Experience in development and management of strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services
Experience in development and management of a wide range of client relationships and pursuits
Experience in staff development, recruiting, and career growth
Active involvement with industry associations and a visible market sector profile
Ability to work with Regional Market Sector Directors, Market Sector Directors, and Area leadership
