Overview
The Department of English at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, invites applications for an Associate Teaching Professor, non-tenure track, in playwriting, screenwriting, and multi-media composition. The ideal candidate would be a playwright with a track record of publications and productions, who has strong experience teaching college writing and composition courses, as well as creative writing at all levels of the curriculum, undergraduate and graduate. The appointment is expected to begin on January 1, 2026. All job offers are contingent upon successful pre-employment background screening prior to commencement of employment. Responsibilities
Teach required courses: Introduction to Creative Writing; Intermediate and Advanced Playwriting; Screenwriting for Film; and Screenwriting for TV. Possibly undertake leadership roles in the creative writing program, including directing the Honors program in Creative Writing, mentoring emerging writers, editing the Writers House Review, organizing the Writers from Rutgers reading series, and other programming. Fulfill the standard teaching load for non-tenure track faculty in Creative Writing: three courses per semester (3-3). Qualifications
MFA at the time of appointment. Strong experience teaching college writing and composition, as well as creative writing at all levels of the curriculum, undergraduate and graduate. Salary and Benefits
The academic year salary for an associate teaching professor will not be less than $84,950, based on the most recent collective bargaining agreement between the faculty union (AAUP-AFT) and Rutgers University. The final salary offer may be determined by various factors including qualifications, experience, expertise, and availability of funds.
