Overview
Assistant Professor in Sociocultural Anthropology, Tenure-Track. The Department invites applications from candidates whose work focuses on the dynamic intersections of Language, Culture, and Power. The successful candidate will teach core courses in linguistic anthropology at undergraduate and graduate levels and develop new courses on language and power. Preference given to scholars bridging language, ethnography, and other subfields within sociocultural anthropology. The department welcomes applications from any geographical focus and a wide-ranging research portfolio. Salary and Benefits
The academic year salary for an assistant professor will not be less than $82,110, based on the most recent collective bargaining agreement between the AAUP-AFT and Rutgers University. The final salary offer may consider qualifications, experience, expertise, department/grant funds, market benchmarks, and internal equity. The Department seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in sociocultural anthropology with emphasis on Language, Culture, and Power. Responsibilities include teaching core linguistic anthropology courses at undergraduate and graduate levels and developing new courses on language and power. Preference given to scholars whose expertise bridges language, ethnography, and related areas across sociocultural subfields. The successful applicant will join a department that values thematic breadth and interdisciplinary research. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related field by August 2026.
