Overview
Lead Auditor needed for the Internal Audit Team at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. This role supports the Reserve Bank Operations Audit Team and audits large-scale Cash Operations, Federal Law Enforcement, Facilities Management, and other Administrative Services. The Lead Auditor is responsible for leading District-focused internal audit assurance and consulting work, including planning, conducting, documenting, and reporting audit results to determine the adequacy and effectiveness of controls over financial reporting, operations, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. We seek a candidate with a long-term interest in an internal audit career who can grow with the organization through education, mentorship, and a defined career path. The ideal candidate is analytical, data-driven, great at relationship-building and communication, and credible through humility and earned trust. The Reserve Bank Operations Audit Team travels to branches to perform on-site audits in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City. Typical travel is five days, about twice per quarter; shorter trips may be required in some months. We prefer candidates who live within commuting distance to our downtown San Francisco headquarters (Embarcadero), Los Angeles (downtown), or Salt Lake City.

Essential Responsibilities
Supervise and review moderate to moderately high-risk audit work performed by audit team members in accordance with established internal and external policies and audit standards. With guidance, evaluate team performance and guide auditors to meet quality expectations. May supervise 1-4 employees on an assignment. Define risk-based audit scope and objectives for district-focused audits; establish assignment timeframes and budgets; develop or revise existing audit programs. Execute approved audit programs under general supervision with increasing independence. Assess governance and risks; evaluate the effectiveness of controls regarding reliability and integrity of information, operational effectiveness, safeguarding of assets, and compliance with laws and regulations. Identify, assess, and challenge audit exceptions; present clear recommendations and explanations to audit management and operating personnel. Prepare written audit reports requiring reasonable edits from internal reviews to business management at the end of audit reviews. Appraise the adequacy of corrective actions from previous findings or other assurance providers; review follow-up work performed by other auditors. Develop and maintain knowledge of activities in assigned risk areas; analyze pertinent data; develop or maintain audit programs and perform risk assessments for assigned areas of liaison coverage.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent experience. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) required within 24 months of placement. Five or more years of internal audit experience, preferably in a lead capacity (Auditor-in-Charge, Lead Auditor). Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to interact with audit stakeholders; conflict resolution skills. Solid understanding of general audit applications, data analytics capabilities, and knowledge of IT controls. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of risk management, compliance, and data-related frameworks. Knowledge of risk and control concepts; ability to challenge others and perform root cause analysis; understanding of IPPF, COSO ERM and internal control frameworks. Strong presentation, facilitation, and project management skills. Ability to travel approximately 15% of the time. Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder with the intent to become a US Citizen.
Preferred Skills and Experience
Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). Internal auditing experience within financial services, government, or businesses with large cash operations (e.g., casinos). Knowledge of data analytics software.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary range: Min: $100,300; Mid: $130,400; Max: $160,300 (Location: San Francisco). Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and market data.
