Knights of Columbus Overview The Director of Accounting and Financial Operations serves as a key leadership figure at the Knights of Columbus Charitable Fund (KCCF), the world’s largest facilitator of Catholic philanthropy, having distributed over $200 million in charitable grants over the past five years. This role blends strategic oversight with hands-on execution, ensuring the financial integrity and operational excellence of KCCF’s donor-advised fund (DAF) program and other related entities. The position requires both strategic policy development and day-to-day accounting and operational management. The role involves managing core accounting functions, overseeing financial reporting, processing financial transactions, and driving process improvements across the organization. Success in this position requires a strong foundation in nonprofit accounting and financial or treasury operations, excellent communication and leadership skills, and a practical, mission-driven mindset. Core Responsibilities Accounting: Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple entities. Oversee general ledger activity, including journal entries, reconciliations, and adjustments. Manage the annual audit process and the preparation of Form 990s, coordinating with external auditors and tax professionals. Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and procedures, with a focus on donor-advised funds and other charitable strategies. Provide financial reporting and analysis for the Board of Directors and various committees. Donor Advised Fund Administration and Operations: Oversee day-to-day financial transactions, including processing payments, reconciling accounts and managing cash flows. Manage individual DAF accounting, including tracking contributions, investment income, grant disbursements, accounts payable transactions, and processing account-level fees. Work with the client success team to ensure timely and accurate grant distributions and fund reporting. Assist in implementing technology solutions to enhance operational efficiency and data integrity. Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, GAAP and industry best practices related to donor-advised funds and other charitable strategies. Skills & Qualifications Required: Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles. Proven experience in financial or treasury operations. Ability to balance strategic financial oversight with hands-on transactional work in a lean team environment. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders. Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Systems/Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with donor-advised fund platforms is a plus. Authorization to Work
in the United States is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Compensation The wage range for this role applies when work is performed in Connecticut. Knights of Columbus reserves the right to adjust the range if the position is performed elsewhere. Estimated range:
$104,500 - $172,400 . Education Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. CPA and prior experience in public accounting is strongly preferred. Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including at least 2 years in a leadership role. Relevant experience could be gained at charitable operations of financial institutions, national non-profit charities, community foundations, or specialized outside service providers. Physical Demands Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a majority of the workday.
