Project Archaeologist/ Cultural Resources Specialist

Role description: Arcadis is seeking a mid to senior-level Archaeologist/Cultural Resources Specialist within our cultural resources practice in California. As part of this role, you will work with the wider National Cultural Resources team in developing strategies to grow cultural resources work for specific clients in California. You will serve as a Principal Investigator (PI) and provide senior oversight for junior staff as well as assist with the management of client-specific large programs and projects. You will also provide quality assurance planning and review for execution of cultural resources work in California. Arcadis is specifically looking for someone with planning and permitting experience for linear infrastructure in California. Arcadis also needs someone with knowledge and experience related to California permits at a federal and state level. Role accountabilities: As a Mid- or Senior-level Archaeologist/Cultural Resources Specialist, you will apply your technical/business knowledge to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues. You will be a key cultural team member who interacts with project managers, directors, and principals; and work as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team. You will provide supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to junior-level staff, when appropriate. The more technical aspects of your role will be serving as a PI in California. You will be working on multiple projects including all levels of investigation (Classes I–III). Management of archaeological field staff and archaeological field crews, including subcontractors will be required. Qualifications & Experience: First and foremost, do you share our passion for preserving cultural resources? Specific qualifications for the role include: Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology. Master’s degree in archaeology or a related field. At least 7 years of experience in cultural resources management, with a combination of field- and office-based experience and roles. At least 2 years of experience completing projects for linear utilities in California at a PI-level. Previous experience in cultural resources planning to support the construction, reconstruction or maintenance of electric and/or gas transmission facilities, or other similar type of linear infrastructures (i.e., water, sewer, oil and gas, etc.). Experience working with federal land management agencies (BLM, USFS, NPS, etc.), and state agencies. Strong knowledge of cultural resources management and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). Demonstrated NEPA/CEQA experience.
