Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Practitioner in inpatient Cardiology Consult in Brooklyn. The successful candidate will provide, coordinate, and assure comprehensive nursing care using nursing process and standards of care, diagnose illnesses and physical conditions, and perform therapeutic, corrective, and prescriptive measures for the designated inpatient or outpatient patient population within a collaborative practice agreement with a physician on staff. Responsibilities
Demonstrate knowledge of the organization’s Service Standards and incorporate them into daily responsibilities. Monitor and trend the cost effectiveness of the position related to service efficiency and performance indicators. Assist in preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable. Collaborate with nursing and other disciplines in the development and implementation of clinical studies. Use evidence-based healthcare literature to advise and support appropriate practice changes within the service. Participate in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established practice protocols for quality and performance improvement. Serve as a clinical expert and resource for education of peers and other health professionals. Maintain current expertise in the practice area and promote professional growth in clinical and managerial roles. Consider needs and behaviors of diverse patient age and cultural groups in all care. Evaluate treatment and healthcare plans for effectiveness and modify per clinical standards and protocols. Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and bylaws. Facilitate continuity of care across the continuum of services (home care, other facilities, follow-up with physicians, etc.). Provide consultation to nursing staff on therapeutic regimens in the hospital setting. Collaborate with nursing leadership to ensure timely communications with staff. Collaborate with the attending physician to maintain timely communication with family, housestaff, and other disciplines. Contribute to the development and revision of interdisciplinary and nursing standards and patient/family education materials relevant to practice area. Work with the interdisciplinary team to implement the therapeutic plan and ensure communication with family. Plan and organize care to meet individual patient needs and ensure appropriate resource utilization per protocols and pathways. Prescribe medical equipment, devices, therapy, and home health services per practice protocol. Prescribe inpatient and discharge medications per New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization. Identify, develop, and implement appropriate plans of care to maximize patient/family preferences and outcomes. Formulate care plans with attending physician and patient/family based on goals of care and length of stay. Order laboratory, radiology, and diagnostic studies per protocol; recognize normal/abnormal findings and refer appropriately. Perform comprehensive health history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment within the designated unit. Act as a respectful member of the healthcare team and comply with professional nursing standards and regulations. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Current NYS Registered Professional Nurse license; NYS Nurse Practitioner license; Master’s Degree in Nursing; ANCC certification or equivalent specialty board certification; Basic Life Support (BLS). Required Licenses:
RN - NYS, NP - NYS Preferred Qualifications:
ACLS, PALS, or NRP per privileges; five+ years of clinical nursing in the target patient population; prior NP experience preferred; strong interpersonal, communication, leadership, and teamwork skills; professional association membership desirable.
