Objective of Position: To provide high-quality child development programs. Program delivery and implementation are in keeping with the YWCA GLA Mission.

Statement Of Primary Duties:

  • Participate in curriculum planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities that enrich academic skills, linguistic abilities, cultural and recreational experiences.
  • Facilitate and/or supervise curriculum activities and/or areas to provide positive learning experiences for the children.
  • Set and maintain appropriate standards and rules for children’s behavior. Disciplinary methods used are non-punitive, supporting children’s self-esteem while teaching self-discipline.
  • Work with assigned group of infants and toddlers applying best practices for infant/toddler care.
  • Facilitate and nurture the development of each child’s self-esteem, trust, and growing autonomy.
  • Provide careful and concentrated supervision of play areas to insure children’s safety and learning.
  • Assist with the supervision of Associate Teachers and Assistant Teachers in the absence of the Lead Teacher or Site Director.
  • Identify children with special needs and report these to the Site Director.
  • Provide the Site Director with timely input on needed program supplies and materials.
  • Cooperate with other staff to create and maintain a harmonious and efficient environment.
  • Interact positively with all parents and refer questions and concerns to the Site Director or Center Director as appropriate.
  • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain required records on each child, including scheduling of diapering, nap, meal counts, and sign-in/sign-out sheets.
  • Cooperate with a flexible work schedule as it may change to accommodate program needs between the hours of 7:00am to 5:30pm.
  • Maintain daily meal counts for Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Implement all CACFP rules and regulations as it applies to breakfast, lunch, and snack being served, including ensuring all children serve themselves the correct portion size.
  • Substitute as a CACFP cook as needed and follow related rules and regulations.
  • Assure all meals are being served family style.
  • Assure that Associate Teachers and Assistant Teachers are promoting children to serve correct portion sizes during meals.
  • Review all Desire Results Developmental Profiles (DRDP) and Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) assessments.
  • Ensure that DRDP anecdotal notes are completed throughout the year even after DRDP’s are completed.
  • Oversee Associate Teachers and Assistant Teachers with their paperwork.
  • Potty train as needed.
  • Oversee paperwork being completed by Associate Teachers and Assistant Teachers including DRDP, anecdotal notes, meal counts, attendance sheets, absence verification forms, and others.
  • Complete requirements for DRDP Tech by inputting data into the DRDP Tech database.

Salary: $25.73/hr.

Location: 1600 E. Compton Blvd., Compton, CA 90221

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 24 units in Early Childhood Education including Core courses, 3 of which can be in infant/toddler and 16 General Education units.
  • Possession of a Teacher permit to the standards of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with children in a group setting.
  • Must provide a TB clearance (Mantoux) within the last 12 months. Must be retested as required by licensing. TB clearance x-rays must be retested periodically as required.
  • Minimum of 15 hours of training in preventive health practices including pediatric CPR and pediatric first aid as required by the California State Department of Social Services.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to complete all required forms and reports.
  • Ability to sit on the floor, bend at the waist, kneel and/or stoop 75% of the time.
  • Ability to lift infants and toddlers weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Must show evidence of a successful Health Screening as required by licensing on a yearly basis.
