Overview

Cloud Data Engineer opportunity with the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR). The role focuses on the analysis, design, implementation, administration, and optimization of the organization’s cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The incumbent will work on projects to ingest, store, process, analyze, explore, and visualize data on GCP and collaborate with other teams to ensure secure, scalable, and reliable operations. DIR does not participate in E-Verify. This posting may be used to fill future vacancies in accordance with 2 CCR 249.3. Responsibilities

Analyze, design, implement, administer, and optimize the organization’s cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Ingest, store, process, analyze, explore, and visualize data on GCP. Collaborate with other teams to ensure smooth operation, security, and scalability of DIRs GCP Platform. Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in technology and communications to evaluate their potential impact on IT strategy and implementation. Qualifications / Special Requirements

Experience with data modeling tools and cloud-native data modeling tools or services in GCP (Looker/LookML experience requested in SOQ section). Experience designing, building, and deploying optimized data pipelines for ETL processes; ability to describe a pipeline with data sources, target storage, tools used, and optimization techniques. Knowledge of data quality checks, data lineage tracking, and data security measures in a cloud environment. Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required, answering questions on: data modeling in GCP, Looker or similar visualization tools, data visualization usage for discovery and communication, and approaches to data quality and governance.
