This role resides in the Corporate Engineering (CE) organization within Global Engineering Services (GES). The Sr. Principal Engineer will lead and execute Fire Protection engineering activities across divisions and regions, applying advanced engineering knowledge with disciplined project management to deliver business solutions. Corporate Engineering plans, designs and deploys Facilities, Utilities & Infrastructure projects with excellence. Education / Experience / Skills
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering required. M.S. in Fire Protection Engineering required if B.S. is in Mechanical Engineering. Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus. Certifications: Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) required. SFPE or NFPA membership a plus. Minimum 10 years of experience in design and deployment of fire protection solutions for buildings and utilities. Mastery of NFPA, NEC, IFC, IBC and other regulatory requirements. Experience with Fire Prevention/Detection/Suppression, Risk Management, Loss Prevention. Experience with fire protection systems including gas, water, pre-action, foam, and clean agent; experience with seismic bracing, underground mains, and storage of flammable materials. Experience with warehouses, high density storage, in-rack sprinklers, and commodity classifications. Experience with Performance-Based Design, Life Safety and Egress analysis, fire alarm and smoke systems. Experience with FM requirements, plan reviews, and inspection reports/responses. Experience supporting construction and commissioning testing of fire protection and life safety systems. Experience in regulated industries (medical device, pharmaceutical, or nutritional) is preferred. Strong leadership, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills; ability to work independently and in fast-paced environments. Proficiency in MS Project/Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook, AutoCAD, SAP, Smartsheet, and Bluebeam. Proven track record across the full project lifecycle: Feasibility → Concept → Design → Construction → Commissioning & Qualification → Turnover → Closeout. Commitment to safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities
Benchmark internally and externally; independently execute or direct design of facilities/utilities/infrastructure systems; serve as SME in design reviews. Project Management: plan and execute projects; establish scope, cost and schedule; perform economic analyses; manage multiple projects and achieve financial targets. Problem Solving / Innovation: develop design solutions that meet regulatory and operational needs; structure studies to address cross-functional issues for optimal solutions. Organizational Interface: mentor and develop staff; act as prime technical contact; coordinate with senior management and external parties; prepare proposals and reports. Compliance: ensure adherence to Corporate/Divisional policies, AES, and EHS&E standards. Additional Responsibilities: act as global SME for Fire Protection Engineering; train teams; manage resources; prepare RCEs and project reports; resolve crises with rapid, hands-on implementation.
