Overview
Hudson River Trading’s High Performance Computing (HPC) Network Engineering team designs and engineers the low-latency communications infrastructure that underpins our large GPU and CPU compute clusters. We architect, optimize, and scale high-performance LAN and WAN infrastructure that interconnects globally distributed, large-scale on-prem data centers to support demanding computational workloads. We are seeking a Network Engineer with deep experience in designing, deploying, and scaling networks for large-scale HPC environments to build the next generation of infrastructure for a premier algorithmic trading firm.
Responsibilities
Network design, product selection, routing, configuration and troubleshooting
Collaborate with the HPC Systems team and other teams to scale the research environment
Engage with external parties for project-related items and future endeavors
Overall capacity planning for data center networks
Develop scripts and processes to increase efficiency
Collaborate with others in the network team to solve cross-discipline problems
Provide detailed documentation
Mentor others as a senior resource
Profile & Skills
10+ years of relevant experience
Proven ability to prioritize workloads and manage implementation schedules with meticulous attention to detail
Proactive problem-solver with hands-on technical skills to tackle field challenges
Strong collaboration skills and a focus on continuous improvement, with humility to own and learn from mistakes
Excellent oral and written communication; ability to distill complex issues into clear terms
Ability to create and maintain clear technical documentation
In-depth understanding of Layer 2/3 protocols (OSPF, BGP, PIM, IGMP, RoCEv2) and spine-leaf/VXLAN architectures
Experience with Arista (EOS), Cisco (NX-OS), Nvidia (Cumulus), SONiC-based switches; openness to new platforms
Strong design skills in computing and grid networks, capacity planning, and full lifecycle project management
Experience with packet decoding and analysis tools (tcpdump, Wireshark)
Experience with public clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible or Salt) for zero-touch network management
Familiarity with Python, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, GitHub
Understanding of power and cooling considerations in data centers
Knowledge of fiber optics and cabling standards up to 800 Gbps; ability to recommend purchases
Unix/Linux command line proficiency and networking stack knowledge
Experience with AI-style network designs and workloads is preferred
Compensation & Benefits The estimated base salary range for this position is $200,000 to $275,000 per year, based on job-related skills and experience. This role is eligible for discretionary performance-based bonuses and a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, and enrollment in the company 401k plan. Employees receive 20 vacation days and 10 paid holidays annually, plus sick and parental leave.
