The Networks team designs, builds, and maintains all the communications infrastructure that supports our high-capacity, low-latency trading and data research environments, operating 24/7 across over 25 countries and 100 locations. We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer with experience in designing and managing large environments to meet the high-performance and availability needs of a leading algorithmic trading firm in global financial markets.
This role requires both project management and deep technical expertise. Collaborating with some of the brightest minds in our industry, you will be responsible for product selection, design, routing configuration, and troubleshooting. You will work closely with our Systems and Trading Operations teams, as well as other departments at HRT, to build, manage, and monitor our low-latency trading network. You will have broad responsibilities with the freedom to analyze and solve problems, directly impacting our worldwide operations.

You will work on diverse projects to enhance the performance and capacity of our global trading and research platforms, contributing to both strategic planning and the technical details of our network architecture.
Qualifications
BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related IT field
5-10 years of relevant experience, preferably in low-latency and high-frequency trading environments
Deep understanding of common Layer 2 and Layer 3 network protocols and best practices; working knowledge of OSPF, BGP, PIM, IGMP
Experience managing Arista, Cisco, and other networking devices daily
Familiarity with low-latency microwave networks and optical transmission systems, such as Adva and Ciena, is desirable
Experience designing enterprise networks, capacity planning, and full lifecycle project management
Proficiency with packet decoding and analysis tools like tcpdump and Wireshark
Excellent communication skills, able to simplify complex issues and produce effective technical documentation
Experience with Unix/Linux command line utilities and networking stack
Strong troubleshooting skills across a range of networking issues, including LAN problems, multicast data distribution, and global WAN
Understanding of power consumption and cooling in data centers
Knowledge of fiber optics and cabling standards, with the ability to evaluate specifications and recommend purchases
Willingness to solve small technical problems in the field
Strong collaboration skills and openness to admitting mistakes
Familiarity with firewalls (Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet), VPNs, and NAT
Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible or Salt is desirable
Knowledge of Python, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, GitHub is desirable
Familiarity with public cloud networks such as AWS, GCP, Azure is desirable
The estimated base salary range for this position is $150,000 to $250,000 annually, commensurate with skills and experience. The role also offers discretionary performance bonuses and a competitive benefits package.
