Overview
GEICO is hiring an Associate Legal Assistant to perform mid-level legal assistant and administrative duties for a Staff Counsel Office. In this role you will develop a working knowledge of legal concepts, practices, and Staff Counsel procedures applicable by jurisdiction, draft/revise routine legal documents, handle multiple administrative and legal tasks to support attorneys, participate in preparation of pleadings, routine motions, notices, jury demands, routine discovery, review invoices, prepare/send checks. Additional responsibilities include training and onboarding support for Staff Counsel Support Staff and maintaining relationships with attorneys, outside departments, courts, clients, third parties. Salary and grade will be commensurate with experience.
Base pay $23.00/hr - $37.00/hr

Responsibilities
Draft/revise routine legal documents and assist with pleadings, motions, notices, jury demands, routine discovery, and related filings.
Assist in preparation of discovery, review invoices, and process checks.
Manage calendars and scheduling, including depositions and hearings.
Monitor court filings and communication with clients, claims personnel, adversaries, and tribunals; refer complex inquiries to the attorney.
Provide training/onboarding support for Staff Counsel Support Staff and maintain relationships with attorneys and external parties.
Qualifications
2 years’ experience as a legal secretary, paralegal or legal assistant handling personal injury litigation matters.
Notary license may be required depending on jurisdiction.
Experience preparing routine pleadings, motions, petitions, prehearing and arbitration statements, notices, and discovery within a case management system.
Experience managing court filings (mail, in person, or e-filing) and handling paper and electronic mail.
Experience maintaining attorney and office calendars and scheduling depositions, trials, and hearings.
Experience reviewing invoices for policy compliance with Expense Policy.
Experience assisting in discovery, including gathering and coordinating medical records and discovery documents.
Strong communication with clients, claims personnel, adversaries, and tribunals; escalate complex inquiries as needed.
