GEICO is hiring an
Associate Legal Assistant - PIP
to perform mid-level legal assistant and administrative duties for a Staff Counsel Office. In this role you will develop a working knowledge of legal concepts, practices, and Staff Counsel procedures applicable by jurisdiction, draft/revise routine legal documents, handle multiple administrative and legal tasks to support attorneys, participate in preparation of pleadings, routine motions, notices, jury demands, routine discovery, review invoices, prepare/send checks. Additional responsibilities include training and onboarding support for Staff Counsel Support Staff and maintaining relationships with attorneys, outside departments, courts, clients, third parties. Salary and grade will be commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
Draft/revise routine legal documents and pleadings for attorney review and signature.
Assist in preparation of pleadings, motions, notices, jury demands, routine discovery, and disclosures.
Manage and monitor court filings and suits via mail, in-person, or e-filing.
Maintain attorney and office calendars, including depositions, EUOs, trials, conferences and hearings.
Review invoices for compliance with the Company’s Expense Policy and process payments accordingly.
Assist in the discovery process, including gathering medical records and coordinating signature and filing.
Communicate with clients, claims personnel, adversaries, and tribunals as needed; refer complex inquiries to the attorney.
Provide training/onboarding support for Staff Counsel Support Staff and coordinate relationships with attorneys and departments.
Basic Qualifications
2 years’ experience as a legal secretary, paralegal or legal assistant handling personal injury litigation matters.
Notary license may be required depending on jurisdiction.
Experience preparing routine pleadings, motions, petitions, notices, discovery, and related documents for attorney review.
Experience managing paper and electronic court filings.
Experience maintaining attorney and office calendars, including scheduling depositions and hearings.
Experience reviewing invoices and ensuring compliance with policy.
Experience assisting in the discovery process and coordinating IMEs and related activities.
Strong communication with clients and colleagues; ability to escalate complex inquiries to the attorney.
Location HYBRID - Onsite 3-4 days per week at the Melville, NY office.
Compensation Annual salary range: $23.91 - $37.65 per hour. The final offer will depend on factors including experience, responsibilities, location, and market considerations.
