Employment Law Section Deputy Attorney General IV role with the California Department of Justice. Responsibilities
Independently handle all aspects of complex civil employment cases, including drafting and arguing motions, interviewing witnesses, conducting and defending depositions and other discovery, preparing and arguing summary judgment motions, expert discovery, and trial preparation.
Conduct jury and bench trials.
Conduct contested administrative evidentiary hearings before the State Personnel Board.
Defend agency administrative actions against petitions for writs of mandamus.
Draft appellate briefs and argue before the Courts of Appeal and the Ninth Circuit.
Obtain work safety and gun violence restraining orders as required.
Communicate with clients, provide detailed case analyses and recommendations.
Provide training, guidance, and advice to state agencies on employment and personnel matters.
Communicate with judges, court staff, juries, and witnesses; work cooperatively with colleagues, opposing counsel, and clients.
Qualifications
Active membership in good standing of the California State Bar.
Must reside in California.
Minimum years of experience and specific qualifications may apply per the Deputy Attorney General IV level.
