Position Title: ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Teacher Campus: Splendora High School Reports To: Campus Principal / Director of Bilingual & ESL Programs Work Days: 187 Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale
Primary Purpose:
The ESOL Teacher at Splendora High School plays a vital role in cultivating exceptional people in two languages. This educator will provide English language development (ELD) instruction and academic support to emergent bilingual (EB) students, with a special focus on newcomers and long-term EBs. The ideal candidate will deliver responsive, research-based instruction that accelerates English acquisition, promotes content mastery, and empowers multilingual learners to thrive in a rigorous academic environment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university (required) Texas ELAR 7-12 teaching certification (required) ESL Supplemental certification (required) Bilingual certification (a plus, but not required)
Experience: Experience working with high school English learners, particularly newcomers and long-term EBs (preferred) Knowledge of sheltered instruction, second language acquisition, and culturally responsive teaching practices
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Delivery: Provide daily English Language Development (ELD) instruction aligned to TEKS and ELPS Use sheltered instruction strategies to support comprehension and academic vocabulary development Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of newcomers at various proficiency levels and long-term EBs who need targeted intervention Collaborate with content area teachers to support language acquisition within core subjects
Student Support: Create a safe, welcoming environment that celebrates cultural and linguistic diversity Provide scaffolded academic and social support for recently arrived students adjusting to U.S. schools Design and implement intervention plans to address gaps in language development for long-term EBs Regularly assess English proficiency and use data to inform instruction
Professional Responsibilities: Engage in ongoing professional learning related to English learners, language development, and equitable practices Maintain accurate documentation of student services, accommodations, and progress monitoring Uphold all federal, state, and district requirements for English learners
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress Frequent standing, walking, and speaking
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Splendora ISD Board's policy on personnel appraisal and the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS).
