As an Inland Marine Underwriter within the Middle & Large Business organization, you will lead the sales and underwriting process by building strong, lasting relationships with agents and brokers, ensuring that The Hartford is the carrier of choice. Success in this role also involves effective account stewardship by managing the sales process from strategic planning to operational excellence and developing cross-sell and up-sell opportunities across the team.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
Executive Underwriter: 5+ years of commercial Inland Marine underwriting experience.
Senior Underwriter: 3+ years of commercial Inland Marine underwriting experience.
Experience in underwriting construction, transportation, and renewable energy risks preferred.
Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit and resilience.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Goal-oriented with a results-driven approach.
Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win.
Technical knowledge and sound decision-making skills.
Valid driver’s license; company pool car may be provided.
Position level will be determined based on candidate qualifications.
Location:
This role offers a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates residing near Cincinnati, OH; Independence, OH; Columbus, OH; Troy, MI; Grand Rapids, MI; or Chicago, IL are expected to work in-office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Non-local candidates will work remotely with occasional office visits as needed.
Candidates must reside within Ohio, Michigan, or Illinois.
Compensation:
The annual base pay range is $98,800 - $184,800, based on market analysis and candidate experience. Compensation may include bonuses, incentives, and recognition programs. Actual pay will depend on individual qualifications and performance.
