Overview
Senior System Studies Engineer role at GE Vernova. Systems Engineering is a cross-functional discipline that combines technical and business perspectives through a structured approach, mindset, and process. It focuses on delivering high-quality solutions that meet user needs by balancing both customer requirements and technical feasibility. This discipline spans from concept through production to operation, with key activities including identifying and quantifying system requirements, developing and evaluating alternative design concepts, performing design trade-offs and selecting optimal solutions, and implementing, verifying, and integrating the chosen design.
Essential Responsibilities
Independently perform in-depth system studies listed below and/or specify scope, review, comment, direct/oversee 3rd party provider(s) for the studies below:
Load Flow / Power Flow, Reactive Capability and Reactive Compensation, Power Factor Study
Dynamic Performance Studies (DPS) and other design studies using both offline and online simulation tools
Power System Dynamic Simulation
Short circuit analysis
Combined Short Circuit Ratio (CSCR) Evaluation
Transient Switching and Insulation Coordination Study
Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV) Analysis
Delayed Current Zero Analysis
Harmonic Distortion Study
Harmonic Stability Study
Overall System Performance Assessment Study
Expertise in system tools like PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP, ASPEN, ETAP, TARA, DigSilent PowerFactory to perform system studies
Excellent technical communication skills to provide guidance, analysis and reports in a clear, succinct manner to customers, project teams and stakeholders
Provide guidance and coordinate engineering tasks to meet project/tender requirements
Technical responsibility in areas of expertise
Innovate and develop tools and processes associated with system studies
Stay engaged with new developments in HVDC technologies, implementing control and protection solutions and creating new analysis techniques and system study tools
Process improvement: review and record design processes and develop new or improved processes
Enforce engineering discipline and set processes across all tasks, adhering to company policies, quality procedures and work instructions
Represent the business at external events by publishing technical papers
Improve technical knowledge and stay abreast of methodologies and technological advancements within the company
Support and mentor other engineers to increase the team’s technical knowledge and competence
Report or resolve non-conformances in a timely manner
Actively participate in defining corrective actions when work is unsafe or when risk is observed
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Minimum 10 years’ experience of network or transient studies for HVDC/FACTS/Renewable Energy/Inverter based Power Systems in offshore wind, industrial, utility substations or grid interconnects
Minimum 5 years working knowledge of NERC and FERC compliance requirements and/or ISOs' interconnection or transmission planning guidelines. Familiarity with NERC standards such as TPL, MOD, and PRC
Minimum 5 years familiarity with ISOs such as PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO-NE, NYISO
Able and willing to travel 20% including international and comply with GE travel guidelines
Desired Characteristics
Knowledge of system tools such as SIMULINK, MATLAB, DSAT
Knowledge of RAM Studies
Independently perform in-depth system studies and/or oversee 3rd party providers
Grid Compliance, Transmission network planning
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) studies
LVRT/HVRT studies, Arc Flash, protection studies, relay coordination, RTDS for protection
Cable selection and sizing; network studies ensuring correct interaction between equipment and control systems
Strong subcontractor/contract management knowledge for EPC or EEP projects
Excellent PC skills, programming and design automation; AutoCAD familiarity
Salary, Benefits and Other Information The salary range for this position is 122,300.00 - 163,100.00 USD Annual. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by experience, education, and work location. This position is eligible for a performance bonus.
