Primary Responsibilities

Market Sector Directors (MSD) are part of HDR's matrix management structure that drive our business. The HDR Highway & Roads (H&R) sector is the largest, representing nearly $1B in annual revenue globally. It includes clients that own and operate highways, toll roads, city, town, and local roads, and bridge structures. HDR provides services such as bridge and highway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and tolling. This role requires understanding of H&R clients, their funding, revenue streams, and governmental structures at various levels. Responsibilities are divided into three areas: Market leadership and business development (approx. 70%) Staff development (20%) Support to Operations (10%) The Director sets the vision for HDR’s growth strategies, supports local and regional initiatives, and maintains regular communication with leadership to implement strategic and operational plans. The sector has ongoing contracts with US state departments of transportation and is expanding internationally. The Director supports business development, manages key client relationships, leads strategic pursuits, and promotes HDR’s services and brand. They also oversee staff growth, technical excellence, and operational performance, including profit and loss management, project delivery, and quality assurance. Qualifications

Preferred: Minimum 20 years in highway or bridge planning/engineering Professional engineering license or equivalent Leadership roles in industry associations like AASHTO or IBTTA Required: Bachelor’s in Engineering or related field At least 12 years industry experience with leadership Excellent communication, client management, and business skills Additional Information
