Responsibilities Job Summary The RN's practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics. The RN records patient histories, performs diagnostic tests, administers treatments and medications, and assists with follow-up and rehabilitation. The RN develops and contributes to care plans, administers medications, manages IV lines, and educates patients and families about managing illnesses and post-treatment care. The RN provides direction to licensed practical nurses and aides, supports clinical knowledge advancement, precepts new staff, and continuously enhances their skills.
Stroke Patient Care All RN staff responsible for stroke patients must have knowledge of stroke symptoms, protocols, NIHSS, stroke alerts, quality indicators, educational materials, and community resources.
Essential Functions
Collects health data systematically, prioritizing based on patient needs.
Develops individualized, evidence-based care plans involving the family.
Implements interventions, initiates treatments, and provides holistic care.
Evaluates patient progress, documents care, and ensures quality outcomes.
Maintains current nursing practice knowledge and adheres to standards and regulations.
Incorporates ethical principles and cultural competence into practice.
Collaborates with healthcare team members and contributes to professional development.
Develops and evaluates standards of care, using evidence-based research for improvements.
Considers safety, effectiveness, and cost in patient care planning and delivery.
Education
Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
All Diploma and ADN hires must complete BSN within 60 months or have 10 years RN experience.
Stroke-specific education required prior to start for relevant staff.
Experience
Over 10 months in med-surg or acute specialty setting.
1 year RN experience required for float positions.
Licenses and Certifications
BLS certification required.
Arizona RN license required.
Unit-specific national certification preferred.
