Overview

Manager, Research Laboratory - Medical Oncology. Full-time position at the University of Miami UHealth / Department of SCCC, based at the UHealth medical campus in Miami, FL. Responsibilities

Formulates and implements short- and long-range goals for the operation of the laboratories. Implements laboratory policies and procedures and coordinates with research staff on issues affecting laboratory services. Serves as a liaison between investigators, research personnel, and staff to solve operating problems and improve technical activities. Advises on technical procedures, techniques, and equipment, and maintains conformance with operational standards. Maintains quality checks on laboratory safety and ensures maintenance of facilities according to good laboratory practices. Installs and maintains laboratory equipment in compliance with federal regulations. Ensures laboratory technicians are properly trained in standard operating procedures and equipment-specific requirements. Assists in determining fiscal requirements and in preparing budgetary recommendations. Compiles and prepares reports and analyses, outlining progress, adverse trends, and recommendations. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of internal controls within the unit and ensures compliance with University policies and procedures; trains employees on controls and policies. Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required. Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Operational Management: Optimizes day-to-day operations and processes for efficiency and effectiveness. Organizational Development: Implements strategies to improve organizational effectiveness and manage change. Financial Oversight: Knowledge of financial operations and management. Team Leadership: Builds and maintains a cohesive, productive team environment; collaborates across functions. Technical Proficiency: Proficient in office software, technology, and relevant applications. Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Department Functions

Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations to ensure optimal functioning for research. Collaborate with principal investigators and researchers to plan and execute experiments. Organize and maintain research data with proper documentation and reproducibility. Manage lab equipment maintenance and calibration, especially for assays and imaging tools. Manage lab inventory and procurement of reagents, consumables, and other supplies. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, biosafety standards, and institutional policies. Train and supervise lab staff, technicians, and students in research techniques and safety protocols. Foster collaboration among team members and liaise with external collaborators. Mentor junior researchers and students; support grant applications and progress reports. Oversee lab budget and allocate funds efficiently for research needs. Coordinate manuscript preparation by managing figures, tables, and references. Manage tissue sample collection, storage, and processing for molecular and histological studies. Collaborate with clinical teams to align lab research with translational goals in treatment.
