The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) . Position Summary:

The Chief Medical Officer, Specialty Care (CMO-SC) of the Practice Plan, in partnership with the Chief Medical Officer, Primary Care (CMO-PC) and the Chief Operating Officer (COO), will provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for UTHealth Houston's Practice Plan, UT Physicians. This role oversees provider performance and fosters a culture of excellence and continuous improvement in specialty care. The CMO-SC will also serve as a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor at a .40-.20 FTE and as CCO at a 0.60-0.80 FTE. The CMO-SC will lead efforts to transform the specialty care delivery model, standardize patient care, and improve clinical integration and care coordination across all sites. The ideal candidate is an experienced specialty care physician leader with clinical credibility and a clear vision for the Practice Plan. They must communicate effectively with physicians and administrators and develop systems to support high performance. The role includes directing the specialty care activities, supporting policies and goals, and collaborating with senior leadership to drive performance, physician engagement, and high-quality patient care. Key Responsibilities:

Develop an environment of clinical excellence and innovation, ensuring positive patient outcomes. Manage staff including hiring, evaluating, and counseling. Oversee budget planning, resource utilization, and cost-effective care strategies. Provide coaching and mentorship to clinical staff and colleagues. Model professional behavior and leadership skills. Delegate clinical practice decisions to staff within professional and organizational standards. Assess patient and family needs; develop new programs as needed. Collaborate on future opportunities and develop plans to meet departmental goals. Maintain a departmental Quality Improvement Plan and ensure ongoing performance assessment. Review financial reports and implement cost-saving measures. Participate in committees and performance improvement programs. Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Texas Medical License or be eligible for a Texas Faculty Temporary License. Board certification/eligibility is preferred. Candidates should have significant clinical experience and demonstrate a commitment to excellence, discovery, and service. Preferred credentials include advanced fellowships and strong leadership potential. Additional Details:
