$147,082.00/yr - $178,785.78/yr Responsibilities

As a Mental Health Nurse, you will provide a combination of direct service and nursing care management to members of the Berkeley community who are dealing with severe mental illness. Our small outpatient clinic serves 260 patients, with varying levels of need, who are on Medi-Cal or uninsured. In addition to illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, many of our patients deal with substance use disorder. We work with patients in an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model as well as more traditional models, across programs such as our Homeless Full Services Partnership, Comprehensive Community Treatment, and Focus on Independence. In this role, you will collaborate with and learn from colleagues throughout the Mental Health Division in a team-based model, with case managers for all patients and strong administrative support. Qualifications

Equivalent to graduation from a two-year accredited college or university with major course work in nursing and one (1) year as a registered nurse in a mental health setting or completion of a three-month senior preceptorship in mental health nursing. The relevant experience or preceptorship must have been completed in the past five (5) years. Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of California Able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet program needs; must maintain a valid California driver’s license and satisfactory driving record when driving on City business. Must be comfortable providing services in the clinic, in patients’ homes, and in homeless encampments Additional expectations: successful candidates will demonstrate knowledge of mental illness, substance use disorders, and physical health conditions; able to perform comprehensive nursing assessments, conduct thorough mental status examinations, and demonstrate knowledge of psychotherapeutic treatments and psychotropic medications.
