Job Opportunity The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Public Health Nurse in the Health, Housing & Community Services Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide a range of public health nursing services to individuals or families in a variety of settings. You will utilize nursing intervention skills to prevent disease, promote healthful behavior, and alleviate conditions adversely affecting the health and safety of individuals, families and the community.

The Public Health Division works to promote healthy environments, prevent illness and injury, protect against emerging health threats, eliminate health inequities, and advocate for social and environmental justice. Our Division consists of doctors, nurses, clinicians, practitioners, health educators, program administrators, analysts, support staff, volunteers, and other dedicated individuals with a common goal: Deliver effective and innovative programs and services that ensure the health and well-being of our community.

Minimum Qualifications A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing with major course work in public health nursing and one (1) year of nursing experience.

Other Requirements Include

Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of California

Possession of a valid California State Public Health Nursing Certificate

Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record

Willing to work evenings or weekends

Some positions require bilingual or bicultural skills

Application review for minimum qualifications and required documents (qualifying experience will be calculated based on the administrative review date)

Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
