SUMMARY OF POSITION Under general supervision, the Meter Maintenance Technician will read water meters for new and ongoing service and accurately record consumption; to maintain meters and meter boxes; to replace meters; and to deliver disconnect notices to customers. Perform other functions as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reads water meters and maintains a high level of accuracy (99.9% MONTHLY) in a timely manner for billing customers. Performs Water meter and Meter Box exchanges, as well as maintenance. Verifies electronic identification number (400 per day) for accuracy of billing. Operate department's equipment for maintenance (Hand tools, power tools, Vac Trailer) Operates ArcGIS to pinpoint locations of meters. Completes billing re-read service orders utilizing Microsoft OneDrive and Adobe Acrobat functions. Performs manual tasks to include digging, replacing fill, climbing, kneeling, and lifting. Performs disconnection/reconnection of water service on delinquent accounts. Communicates with the public on a daily basis. May occasionally be required to drive a city issued vehicle to and from work locations as assigned by Crew Leader/Supervisor. Complies with all written City policies and procedures. Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Must be able to operate computerized meter reading equipment and be able to identify new meters in residential areas. Ability to read a variety of water meters. Skill to deal tactfully and effectively with water customers and respond to requests and inquiries from the general public. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception. Ability to operate assigned equipment. Must be able to make sound decisions using good judgment and making observations. Ability to work with Utility Billing office to aid in Customer Concerns/Issues. Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the below Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute.

High School Diploma or GED.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of experience in water meter reading preferred. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Must pass a drug screen and background check. Must have valid Class C Texas Driver's License.

Physical Demands/Supplemental PHYSICAL

DEMANDS Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds). Some tasks require visual and odor perception and discrimination and ability to visually discriminate numbers on the water meter. Frequently, sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time are expected WORK ENVIRONMENT There is limited exposure to environmental conditions. Task may require exposure to strong odors and/or smoke, traffic hazards, extreme heat/cold or extreme weather conditions.
