Description
Boulder County Public Works Department is seeking to hire a Custodian. Custodian is a journey level classification. Working in a diverse and inclusive environment, the custodian performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties in the routine maintenance of County buildings.

This is a full-time, benefited position that will work Monday - Thursday 4:30pm - 1:30am, Friday 4:30pm - 10:30pm. This position will work out of 2525 13th St suite 203, Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime).

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hiring Salary Range: $50,004.00 - $54,042.00 Annually

Tentative Hiring Timeline:
  • Phone Screening: Week of October 20th

New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify). Examples of Duties

  1. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors
  2. Washes windows, screens, sills, woodwork, doors, desks, walls and ceilings
  3. Cleans and disinfects restrooms
  4. Dusts, cleans and disinfects and vacuums offices, and meeting rooms
  5. Locks and unlocks doors to secure work area
  6. Collects and disposes of trash, recycling and compostable materials
  7. Shampoos and extracts carpets
  8. Site and work assignments are based on need and can change at any time
  9. Performs related work, as required
  10. May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of 1 (one) year of experience in custodial services.

Additional related education may count towards required experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment and supplies
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work effectively with other employees
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Back and Upper Body (lifting)
    • Constant vacuuming and mopping
    • Occasionally lifts 40 lb. buckets of water to 29 inches
    • Frequently lifts trash containers 5-40 lbs. from floor to 36 inches
    • Occasionally carries 40 lbs. for 200 feet
    • Pushes or pulls carts, dollies, buffers, etc. at forces of 20 pounds
    • Occasionally (three times per month), moves office furniture, equipment of 80-100 lbs. (two-person lift)
  • Hands/Arms (repetitive motion)
    • Constant use of hands, arms, and elbows including surface and overhead cleaning and wiping
  • Body Movement
    • Daily climbs stairs and, reaches overhead, and works in unusual squatting or kneeling positions
    • Occasionally works on knees
    • Bending, twisting, kneeling (Frequent repetitive motion)

**Vacation and Medical leave are based off of full time FTE accruals. Part-time FTE/term employees accrue leave based on the percentage of time they work.
