Overview
The State Personnel System is an E-Verify employer. Requisition No:861968. Agency: Department of Health. Working Title: DENTAL ASSISTANT - 64003358. This position is responsible for dental assistant activities at the Gilchrist County Health Department and occasionally backup dental assistant support at the Dixie and Levy dental programs. This position may also provide support to the front desk clerical staff if needed.
Responsibilities
- Assist Dentist during exams and perform expanded functions as defined by guidelines provided by the State of Florida during patient treatment.
- Take radiographs and/or intraoral photos of intraoral structures.
- Maintain dental equipment including daily, weekly, and monthly requirements per manufacturer recommendations; ensure proper breakdown, cleaning, disinfecting, and setup for the next patient.
- Prepare dental instruments for sterilization and store them after sterilization.
- Communicate with parents regarding planned care and assist with scheduling appointments for further treatment needs.
- Monitor supply inventory and place orders when supplies are low.
- Provide backup front desk support to the dental program as needed, including answering phones, scheduling client appointments, creating new patient packets and folders, handling forms for new charts, sending recall notices, confirming appointments, pulling client records, and verifying paperwork in client records before patient visits.
- Request assistance from supervisor for issues related to policies and procedures of the dental program.
- Perform other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of sterilization equipment.
- Knowledge of dental x-ray/processor equipment.
- Knowledge of dental lab equipment and expanded dental functions.
Qualifications
- Minimum - Dental Assistant Certificate; Expanded Functions Certificate.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid driver’s license; willing to travel and have reliable transportation.
- Experience with dental x-ray.
- Willing to work a flex schedule at or between Dixie, Gilchrist, and Levy County Health Departments.
