We offer on-the-job phlebotomy training through our hospital-based apprenticeship. Candidates can earn income as they train, gain real-world experience, and learn essential skills needed to begin their healthcare career as a Phlebotomy Technician.
Position Summary
The Phlebotomist Apprentice is a technical skill-based apprenticeship that provides phlebotomy students the ability to learn and develop on the job training for phlebotomy. Our phlebotomists represent the face of Sonora Quest Laboratories to patients who come for routine and health decision base laboratory work. This role collects quality blood samples from patients and prepares those specimens for lab testing.
The Phlebotomist-Apprentice role has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood in a safe and accurate manner. The Phlebotomist Apprentice demonstrates behaviors based on Sonora Quest values, focusing on empathy, process excellence, confidentiality, and accuracy of patient information.
Core Functions
- Specimen collection, general laboratory specimen processing, or referral laboratory processing, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity.
- Verifies patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time and date of collection, and all other pertinent data found on requisitions as required for processing and billing.
- Focusing on quality by assuring that all work performed is accurate and complete, and completing documents legibly and accurately per site protocol.
- Participates in departmental financial responsibilities through the appropriate use of supplies and materials, and assures an exceptional customer experience through communication that reflects the highest standards of service.
- Acknowledges and understands the importance of ‘Patient Rights’ and privacy (HIPAA), and promotes, supports and exhibits behavior consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Laboratory Sciences of Arizona.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum age requirement of 18.
- Must be a high school graduate or have achieved equivalency through the GED exam.
- Good reading, writing and math abilities.
- Good organizational skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Position may require ADHS Fingerprinting Certification or the ability to obtain fingerprint certification.
- Good customer service or patient service abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills.
- Customer service in a retail or service environment.
- Keyboard/data entry experience.
- Additional related education and/or experience.
