Base pay range

$18.00/hr - $25.00/hr

Position Summary

The Mobile Phlebotomist plays an essential role in ensuring timely and high-quality specimen collection and transport. This position is responsible for collecting blood and other patient specimens at various physician clinic locations and patient homes, following established policies and procedures. The Mobile Phlebotomist ensures proper specimen preparation and is responsible for safely transporting the collected specimens to the main laboratory or hospital in a timely manner using an assigned vehicle.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program or certification from an accredited institution required, or 12 to 18 months of phlebotomy experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Background in medical laboratory and/or medical terminology preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in off-site environments.

Responsibilities

  • Specimen Collection: Perform venipunctures and collect other biological specimens (e.g., urine, swabs) from patients in physician clinics and home environments. Ensure patient identification and verification using two identifiers prior to collection.
  • Patient Interaction: Communicate professionally and compassionately with patients in various settings. Explain procedures clearly, answer patient questions, and ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Specimen Preparation & Handling: Properly label and prepare specimens for transport, ensuring accurate documentation (e.g., collection time, source). Follow handling, storage, and transport requirements based on specimen type and test.
  • Specimen Transport: Use a hospital-provided or approved vehicle to transport specimens from collection sites to the hospital laboratory; maintain specimen integrity and ensure timely delivery according to protocols.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of collections, patient information, and transport logs. Adhere to HIPAA, safety, and infection control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor phlebotomy supply levels in mobile kits and request restocking as needed.
  • Safety & Infection Control: Utilize PPE appropriately and ensure that all procedures are performed under sterile conditions. Safely dispose of sharps and biohazardous materials in compliance with infection control policies.
  • Vehicle Care & Readiness: Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the mobile phlebotomy vehicle and its equipment. Report any issues or incidents promptly.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in ongoing training, competency assessments, and updates related to mobile phlebotomy best practices and safety standards.
