Overview
Hospital Phlebotomy Tech I - Float at Sonora Quest Laboratories. This position may be located within a Hospital Facility, Patient Service Center (PSC), In Office Phlebotomy (IOP) or Mobile Diagnostic Services (MDS) and may require coverage at multiple locations. Shift: Varied.
Compensation: New Grads: $20.91 per hour. Experienced (3+ yrs): $23.19 - $25.71 per hour, depending on experience.
Responsibilities
- Collect specimens and ensure correct patient and specimen identification and integrity for all age groups as required.
- Enter and verify patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time/date of collection, clinical information, and other data on requisitions; verify accuracy and appropriateness of specimens; aliquot and label specimens according to procedures; deliver to the appropriate technical area; perform initial processing and preparation of samples for transport.
- Assist in monitoring workflow and training of new employees.
- Focus on quality and accuracy; document processes legibly; follow established methods; participate in department/system initiatives (e.g., Six Sigma). Maintain acceptable specimen rejection rates and productivity/quality standards.
- Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through appropriate use of supplies and materials; help reduce costs and improve service; basic knowledge of billing; commit to an error-free work environment.
- Communicate courteously and professionally with internal and external customers; work collaboratively in a team; support all areas/departments/shifts as assigned; attend meetings and stay current with communications.
- Adhere to Patient Rights and HIPAA privacy requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum age 18.
- High School diploma or equivalent may be required depending on state regulations.
- Basic knowledge of department resources.
- Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience.
- Possession or ability to obtain DHS fingerprinting certification.
- Valid state driver’s license where required and eligibility for company auto insurance coverage.
- Float positions require travel and flexible hours to cover multiple locations, including weekends/holidays; may require on-call duties.
- Career ladder progression is subject to completion of ladder requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish/English).
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Additional related education and/or experience.
