Overview

Seasonal Lifeguard at The Bay Club Company. Supervises the pool and swimmers to ensure safety and adherence to pool rules.

Primary Job Functions

  • Supervise the activities of swimmers by consistently enforcing rules and regulations
  • Notify swimmers of improper activities or hazards
  • Rescue persons in distress or in danger of drowning and provide rescue breathing, CPR and First Aid as needed
  • Notify Aquatics Director of any accidents, rescues, or problems
  • Report to the Aquatic Director any equipment in need of repair
  • Answer inquiries pertaining to pool use and Aquatics services
  • Direct all helpful suggestions from participants and others to the Aquatic Director or Club Management
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings
  • Available to work weekdays, weekends and holidays as needed; hours are not guaranteed and can change
  • Be on time for shifts and rotations, wear uniform, sunscreen applied, and carry Rescue Tubes and First Aid pack; check contents daily
  • Help keep pool deck clean, safe and organized
  • Follow all safety procedures and precautions
  • Provide high quality customer service
  • This includes giving full attention to the pool/swimmers; if assistance is needed, refer to Head Lifeguard or Service Desk

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary job function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  • Current Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, AED & First Aid certifications
  • Knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques and first aid; ability to recognize hazards and act appropriately
  • Effective communication skills and positive engagement with members
  • Ability to monitor visual and audible cues for swimmers in distress
  • Proficient swimming ability and proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques
  • Ability to extract victims from pool to the deck
  • Oral comprehension and expression — ability to understand and communicate ideas clearly

  • Work is outdoors in varying and occasionally extreme (hot) weather
  • Must arrive on time for shifts; eligibility to work weekends, evenings and holidays
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in work environment
  • Daily public contact; ability to handle difficult situations
  • Frequent use of hands; ability to climb, balance, crouch, kneel, crawl; occasional prolonged sitting and regular walking
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds; vision requirements for close, distance, color, peripheral vision and depth perception
  • Mobility around and in the pool
