Under the supervision of the Production Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Operator operates, lubricates, and helps maintain heavy equipment.
Essential Functions
- Operate and lubricate heavy equipment safely and efficiently
- Assist in maintaining heavy equipment
- Maintain housekeeping in work areas
- Spot and unload railcars
- Inspect belts and feeders
- Clean spills using jackhammer, shovel, and broom
- Perform pre-shift inspections on equipment
- Report any needed repairs to the supervisor
- Maintain accurate records
- Assist in plant clean-up
- Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor
Preferred Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in English
Physical Requirements
- Read and write to complete daily reports
- Good communication skills, both one-on-one and via two-way radio
- Work with minimal supervision
- Climb stairs and ladders
- Remain seated in equipment for up to 12 hours per day
- Lift 40-100 lbs.
- Good hand/eye coordination and vision for safe operation
- Work in all weather conditions
- Prioritize safety at all times
Working Conditions
Work in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, ice, rain, and high humidity. Exposure to vibrating equipment, mechanical, electrical hazards, heights, dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, and fuels. (See MSDSs)
