Olympic College enrolls a racially and socioeconomically diverse student body of approximately 10,500 students annually. A comprehensive community college, we offer instruction in Basic Studies to include awarding a high school diploma, GED preparation, and English to Speakers of Other Languages; academic transfer and workforce education degrees and certificates; four applied baccalaureate degrees, and community education in our two-county region.
Essential Functions
Olympic College is recruiting an adjunct faculty to join the Social Sciences & Humanities Division as part-time American Sign Language faculty. The position will primarily teach ASL 121, 122, and 123, with the possibility of teaching ASL 101 (Fingerspelling and Numbering). Teaching will be in-person, daytime and evening, on the Bremerton and Satellite campuses when required. Responsibilities include:
- Teach daytime and evening in-person classes on the Bremerton and Satellite campuses when required.
- Provide quality teaching, including related preparation, grading, and record keeping.
- Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes by the first day of classes and to the division office as requested.
- Identify individual learning needs of students and adjust learning environments and activities to meet those needs.
- Punctually communicate with students, faculty, staff and administrators.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Studies or related field; OR
- CTE Certification AND minimum of two years’ teaching experience
- Extensive coursework or experience in American Sign Language
- Education or experience with Deaf culture and deafness
- Relevant teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in ASL and/or Deaf Studies
- College teaching experience
Employment Details
Salary: $5,000 - $6,000 per 5-credit
Classification: Adjunct Faculty
Reports to: Dean of Social Sciences & Humanities
Terms of Employment: This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. The salary listed is a range based on per quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments including travel to clinical sites may be a part of the instructional load. Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon their initial hire; eligibility may accrue after meeting load requirements.
