Overview
Office and Health Assistant at Fargo Public Schools. Job Type: Full time. Benefits Eligibility: Benefits Eligible. Schedule: 9-months, Monday through Friday. Salary Range: Group 3 from $18.51 to $22.94 per hour.
Position Purpose: Represent the school building and district in a positive way to students, staff, parents, and the total community. Perform work of a general office nature that assists with the smooth operation of the building. Under the direction of a licensed nurse and supervision by a building-level principal, implement UAPs, provide health services, medication administration, and general documentation of health care in accordance with district policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Administer first aid/CPR and episodic care for students and staff according to school district policy.
- Administer medication according to school policy to students with appropriate prescriber/parental permission forms; keep accurate documentation of medications received and dispensed.
- Accept and utilize direction by a licensed nurse and recognize the limits, constraints, and job responsibilities of the position and training provided by contracted nursing service.
- Complete requisitions for health office supplies, stock first aid cabinets, and maintain the work area in a clean, orderly, and safe manner.
- Communicate with needed staff on medical support plans for students.
- Communicate with parents on students served.
- Fill out incident reports in a timely and professional manner.
- Communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
- Process student attendance with appropriate communication on absences.
- Operate office equipment (laminating, photocopying, faxing) and manage building mail and community/district flyers.
- Greet and direct visitors in a professional manner.
- Make and receive phone calls, take messages, and route calls in a professional manner.
- Assist with Nutrition Service activities as needed.
- Participate in all mandatory training or training appropriate to the position as required by the district.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Intermediate math skills (adding, subtracting, dividing, multiplying, calculating percentages, ratios or averages, or percentiles).
- Knowledge of metric units and measurement systems.
- Understanding of confidentiality and ability to abide by confidentiality regulations.
- Knowledge of computer programs related to the position; familiarity with office equipment and general office productivity software (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, email).
- Ability to problem solve, critically evaluate, and execute duties under stressful conditions; maintain composure under pressure; follow detailed written and/or oral instructions.
- Ability to work with students of varying abilities; develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community; communicate clearly in writing and orally.
- Knowledge of district administrative rules and procedures pertaining to health care services and operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge in behavior management and/or understanding of special education students.
- Experience in intense/crisis response medical situations.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of one year in a similar position.
- First Aid and CPR Certification or ability to obtain.
- Prior experience working with children and/or health care setting preferred.
Physical Requirements
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, bending. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and peripheral vision.
Licensure and Certifications
Medication Administration Training for School Personnel. Must be registered on the North Dakota Unlicensed Assistive Person registry or another registry recognized by the North Dakota Board of Nursing. Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license preferred but not required.
